Park Statistics acres: 565 campsites: 284 Lakeport State Park is two separate units, along the beautiful shore of Lake Huron. The unit north of the Village of Lakeport provides camping opportunities, while the unit south of the Village of Lakeport provides day use recreational opportunities.
Camping The park has a total of 284 modern campsites located in two campgrounds with the newer campground consisting of 56 large grassy lots, with blacktop pads. Each site provides electricity and a picnic table. There is a modern toilet/shower building in each campground. An organization campground is provided for youth groups. A mile of Lake Huron beach is adjacent to the campgrounds offering campers opportunities for many water-oriented activities.
NOTE: the campground unit of Lakeport State Park is for registered campers only. All others who wish to enjoy the park can use the day use area.
Day Use The Franklin Delano Roosevelt unit of Lakeport State Park is a day use area one mile south of the campgrounds. A half-mile of beach frontage offers great swimming and sunbathing. The area provides changing courts, bathroom facilities, a ball diamond and picnic shelters. Groups may rent the picnic shelters for special activities.
Area Attractions Many fine restaurants are available in the Lakeport, Port Huron and Lexington areas. The Blue Water Bridge, located in Port Huron, is the gateway to Canada. The Blue Water Festival takes place every year during the first half of July, high-lighted by the Port Huron to Mackinac Island sailboat race. Boat night precedes the big race the evening before the boats set sail. In August, Port Huron offers a different kind of boat racing in the form of power boat races. Other Port Huron attractions include boat shows, car shows, fishing contests, and the Gus Macker Basketball Tournaments. Ten miles north, in Lexington, a new harbor provides 1000 feet of breakwall pier fishing as well as a boat launch and charter boat fishing trips. Some activities that are available in or around the park include berry picking, horseback riding, fishing, hiking and cross-country skiing.
Location Lakeport State Park is located both to the north and south of the Village of Lakeport. Take I-94 east to Port Huron, and go north on M-25 approximately 8 miles to the park. Algonac State Park contains approximately 1,500 acres and has a half-mile of St. Clair River frontage. The park is open all year for a variety of activities.
Camping and Day Use The park has 296 modern campsites found in two campgrounds, the Riverfront and the Wagon Wheel. There are three modern toilet/shower buildings, electric service and a sanitation station. The day use area has a picnic area, picnic shelter, and restroom facilities.
Lakeplain Prairies and Oak Savannas Algonac State Park is home to some of the rarest natural communities in Michigan. Algonac's lakeplain prairies and lakeplain oak savannas are considered globally significant. These special habitats include nineteen species that are on the state list of endangered, threatened, and special concern species. Prairies and oak savannas require periodic burning to remain healthy. Stewardship efforts are underway to restore Algonac's prairies and savannas. The blazing star prairie across from the archery range is a wonderful place to view prairie plants, birds, and butterflies.
Trail Information Algonac State Park maintains foot trails for those who wish to hike or cross-country ski. These trails pass through a variety of habitats. The new Lake Plain Prairie Trail allows one to walk through the blazing star prairie. Boating and Fishing Both are available on the St. Clair River, which is well known for excellent walleye fishing in the summer. The park has boat launches both north and south of the park.
Attractions One of the major attractions is viewing the freighters of the world along the river frontage and pleasure boat-watching.
Ranges For those who enjoy the shooting sports, the park has both an archery range and a trap shooting range. The park is also open to small and big game hunting, during the fall and winter seasons.
Winter Activities Besides winter camping, for the adventuresome, the park offers a place to go cross-country skiing. A winter store/camp program is also available during off-season months.

St. Johns Marsh
This 3,000 acre+ marshland is managed by the Wildlife Division of the Department of Natural Resources. It is home to numerous species of mammals, reptiles, and more than 150 species of birds. Several threatened plant and animal species live in the marsh as well.
